Frisbee Creator Dies

February 17th, 2010

Fred Morrison put his World War II experience as a fighter pilot to peaceful use by inventing what became known as the Frisbee.

Mr. Morrison, who died Tuesday at age 90, called his earliest flying disks “Whirlo-Way” and “Pluto Platter,” to capitalize on the flying saucer craze of the 1950s.

In the 1960s, the Frisbee became identified with the counter-culture and with movie stars like Richard Burton and Julie Andrews, who affirmed they were fans. The disks even inspired new sports, including Frisbee Golf and Ultimate.

“It is impossible to fathom the impact Fred Morrison has had on the world through the invention of such a simple object know as the Frisbee,” said Kevin Givens, executive director of the World Flying Disc Federation.

Beat the Heat!

June 24th, 2009
Now that we are moving into the hot weather, here are some tips on how to beat the heat:
  • Make sure to take plenty of rest breaks, always stay properly hydrated, and wear lightweight clothing.
  • Wear sunscreen & a hat
  • Plan to exercise during the early morning or late evening if possible, when the temperatures tend to be cooler.
  • If someone shows warning signs of heat illness, get the victim to a shady area right away. Try to cool the victim immediately with a wet cloth, or spray from a cool shower or garden hose. Seek out medical help as soon as possible.

2nd Clinic Update

May 13th, 2009

LEAGUE FEES ARE DUE TONIGHT: $50

Some reminders for people based on last weeks clinic:

  • Bring two shirts (dark + light color), this will allow for proper team sorting.
  • Plenty of water for the duration of the play, you will be running around.
  • Folding chairs if you have any, so you can sit down and rest in between plays.

LEAGUE BRANDED DISCRAFT DISCS ARE FOR SALE => $15 EACH
Support the league and buy a frisbee, we have roughly 50 discs available, these discs are high quality discraft ‘175 grams’ sanctioned league weight discs. They hold up well, and last. This is critical for beginners, get a regulation disc and practice your throws.

WEATHER CONCERNS
In case we have a forecase for rain, we will still play UNLESS there is thunder.  As always, rain or shine, the game will go on, unless it THUNDERS and the field is unsafe.  Otherwise please show up, and if needed bring appropriate change of clothes (if it does rain).

FIELD CONDITIONS
As many of you know, the city of Windsor workers are on strike right now, this has impacted us via lack of field maintenance (Tranby) and no field setup has yet begun on our new field.  The grass maybe a bit long, so something to keep in mind.

And same as last week, we are playing at Tranby Park today.
